The 2009 Uncle Goose ABC Blocks in a Canvas Bag has 28 generously-sized blocks (1 3/4 square inch cubes) and a newly designed canvas bag. This set is patterned after blocks from the turn-of-the-century. It is masterfully crafted and colorfully painted with non-toxic inks. Each block features a unique animal picture, a number or math symbol, and four letters (two embossed) for a total of four complete alphabets. Your child will learn about the alphabet, numbers, and animals. These Uncle Goose ABC blocks will help expand language skills. It will last through years of play. Comes with a durable canvas bag with handles for easy storage.
The Uncle Goose ABC blocks of capital letters are great with the ABC Blocks Lowercase also by Uncle Goose. Together they show the alphabet in capital and lower cases as well as feature adult and baby animals (e.g., frog and tadpole). Great learning toy. Click on the "Images" tab above for more pictures.

Its finely-crafted toys exceed the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and EN-71 (European) safety standards.
We will use his blocks for years to come. With the alphabet, numbers, mathematical symbols, and animal pictures, uses for them seem to be endless (i.e. stacking, spelling, counting, math, identifying animals). They are also very durable and can easily take the punisment of a toddler.
With so many toys now requiring batteries I find the simplicity of ABC blocks, along with their promotion of thinking and coordination refreshing. And as a wonderful bonus, they are made in this great country of USA.
As a parent and a former teacher, I especially like alphabet blocks because children learn a lot while playing with them. Learning and playing become seamless. I also like them because they grow with kids. First they can learn about animals and colors, then letters and numbers. When they reach the later preschool age, letters can be put together to form words. Simple arithmetic can be taught as well.
I particularly like the Uncle Goose variety because they are good sized (1 3/4" square) and are easy for small hands to handle. They are also well-made. I've seen alphabet blocks where the paint comes off. I don't like that. I want the toys to last through years of play. I like that the Uncle Goose blocks are made with child-safe and non-toxic materials. That makes me feel better about our daughter putting them in her mouth.
One last thing: I was surprised how much I appreciated having the generous-sized canvas bag. I was skeptical about paying more for them. But, for those of you who have seen your home taken over by toddlers, you understand how important it is to have someplace to easily put toys away. My husband and I use the canvas bag to store the blocks. We also use it to tote the blocks when we go places with our daughter. It's really helped simplify what to bring.
