Counting Blocks by Grimm's Spiel & Holz
Product Description
Counting Blocks by Grimm's Spiel & Holz are 48 brightly-colored wooden blocks that fit onto ten pegs. This is an excellent kids’ educational toy. Children can learn colors, how to count, add, and subtract by experimenting the many way to fill the pegs to the top. This unique toy can even be used to begin to introduce fractions -- a difficult concept made easier and fun to learn with real live demonstrations. When not on the pegs, the units can be used for building block play to unleash kids' imaginations.
Benefits
In addition to the educational benefits cited above, Counting Blocks by Grimm's help develop fine motor skills, which play an important role in preparing kids to be self-sufficient. Such skills are critical in children’s ability to use spoons to eat, to write legibly with a pencil, to turn pages in a book, to dress, or to brush their teeth. Stacking also helps stimulate reasoning skills, which are important in problem solving activities.
Also, block play has been linked to language development. A recent study reported in the October 2007 issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine finds a strong association between playing with building blocks and a significant increase in language scores in young children. On average, kids who played with blocks scored 15 percent higher on their language assessment than those who did not. Researchers speculate that such a measurable increase is partly due to creative block play replacing other time spent in activities that do not encourage language development, such as watching television. They also maintain that child and parent playing together remains the strongest way of promoting children's development.
