Uncle Vova's Tree by Patricia Polacco (Paperback)
Children's Book Description
Christmastime is special at Uncle Vova’s house. Laughing and singing, he dances, takes the children on a sleigh ride, and gathers them to trim the tree that he and Svetlana planted when they first came to America. But when Vova is gone, to the surprise of everyone, the miracle of his tree—and the memories— only grow.
Book Review
Polacco's combination of softly delineated faces; subtle areas of white space has an eclectic look, but she pulls these elements of her distinctive style together into an expressive presentation. In composition, color, and detail, the artwork glows with originality and verve. A fine read-aloud book for the Christmas season.

About the Author / Illustrator
Patricia Polacco is the author and illustrator of several picture books for children. She was born in Lansing, Michigan. Her early years were spent in her grandmother's farm in Union City, Michigan - the setting for many of her stories. As a child, she struggled in school due to dyslexia. She was unable to read until she was 14 years old. She was teased by children and hid her disability until a teacher helped her. Thank you, Mr. Falker recounts this time of her life.
